Based on member feedback, an All Member Meeting will be held on Sunday, December 18 at 9pm ET. The meeting will be hosted by the Administration Team and will be held in the Member TeamSpeak.

The meeting came about as the result of recent feedback on a poll question in which 76% of respondents indicated an interest in participating in a member-wide, town hall style question and answer meeting.

There will be no specific agenda for the session, so we encourage members to bring their questions, comments, and suggestions to the session. We look forward to speaking with you on December 18 and welcoming our members to TeamSpeak as 2016 comes to a close.

This month, we feature Barnstable Municipal Airport (KHYA), a Class D airport located in Hyannis, Cape Cod.

KHYA is Cape Cod's mjaor airport, followed by Martha's Vineyard (KMVY) and Nantucket (KACK). It is served by scheduled air carriers as well as charter flights and general aviation. It was founded in 1928 and was used by the Nav during World War Two; the field is now exclusively civilian. It is currently served by two scheduled carriers: Cape Air and JetBlue Airways.

Hyannis has two long runways, each just over 5,000 feet in length. While one can almost always find a Cape Air C402 parked at the field, the airport can handle everything from a Cessna 152 to a Boeing 737, including the scheduled JetBlue E190. KHYA also has two precision and mulitple non-precision approaches, so whether you'd like to practice an ILS, a VOR approach, or simply do a touch-and-go, Hyannis is the place to be!

WorldFlight 2016
By: Camden Bruno, Air Traffic Manager

The 16th annual WorldFlight was held this month, launching from Sydney (YSSY) on November 6 and finishing 6 days later. The event features a continuous series of flights, flown by VATSIM members from around the world, for charity. In addition to at-home pilots, several fixed based simulators are involved in the event.

The event passed through Boston Center’s airspace on November 7 during a leg from Toronto (CYYZ) to LaGuardia (KLGA). Boston Center controllers Mike Willey and Evan Reiter sequenced and descended a long line of traffic on the approach into LaGuardia.

WorldFlight 2016 was an incredible success, raising US$75,130 for selected charities from around the world.

Six Months of Events
By: Clif Whitten, Events Coordinator

In 2017, BVA will be aiming to hold more events than ever! Beginning in December, we’re planning to host at least one event each week.

In addition to our normal rotation of Regional Circuit, Pack The Pattern, Challenge, and General Aviation Fly-In events, we’ll be hosting Regional Circuits with other ARTCCs as well as running events entirely outside of our airspace. There are also several major events in the works, including a Northeastern Corridor event, Bradley Bash, and our Spring FNO—just to name a few.

We know that our members appreciate the additional and guaranteed coverage that events have to offer, and that the more often we light up our airspace, the more pilots we attract from across VATSIM.

You’ll see events posted on our calendar throughout December, with more to follow.

Welcome 'Bac' Zac Ploch to the ATC Training Staff
By: Evan Reiter, Training Administrator

Boston Virtual ARTCC is proud to welcome Zac “Zippy” Ploch back to the ATC Training Staff. Zac is a long-time member of Boston Virtual ARTCC, having been a part of our ATC program since 2013. In fact, he completed his initial Class C Ground OTS with me on March 30, 2013 after only one session—something that almost never happens in our training program.

In addition to a wealth of online ATC experience, Zac has recently begun to pursue a career in air traffic control, and is currently in training at an air traffic control tower in Georgia.

Zac brings a positive attitude, great experience, and top-notch knowledge to our ATC training program. We are grateful to have him back on the staff and look forward to his continued service.

Cape Air Virtual's Pilot of the Month is:

Marc L (KAP339)

for completing 5 flights into and out of KSYR.
BVA's ATC Instructors have recognized:

Benjamin Dudley, Class B Ground

as Air Traffic Controller of the month for his outstanding dedication and service.

Currency Requirements
Last month's question was:

What are the currency requirements for a pilot to act as pilot-in-command of an aircraft that is carrying passengers at night?

The correct answer is: to carry passengers between 1 hour after sunset and ending 1 hour before sunrise, the pilot-in-command must have made at least 3 takeoffs and landings to a full stop int he preceding 90 days during the epriod beginning 1 hour after sunset and ending 1 hour before sunrise. In other words, to carry passengers between one after before sunset and one hour before sunrise, the pilot must have made 3 full stop landings within the same time period within the preceding 90 days. Remember, touch-and-goes don't count!

Challenge Question: What is a high-performance endorsement? What are its privileges, and what are the requirements to obtain one?

The answer to the challenge question will be included in next month's Pilot Tip.

Each month, we run a contest on our forums to determine who has the best flight simulator screenshot. This month, Alec Liberman won with a shot of an American Airlines 737-800 in a retro livery climbing out of Boston!
