There are less than 2 weeks to go until the biggest flight simulation event in North America! FlightSimCon 2016 takes place next weekend (June 11-12) at the New England Air Museum on the grounds of KBDL.

BVA is the centerpiece of this event every year. For 2016, there are already 40 members registered to attend in-person. The members who are attending the event are representing our community: they will be demonstrating what it’s like to fly and control by bringing and operating their own simulation setups for display.

If you are attending, we can’t wait to see you! You should have received an email with detailed briefing information about BVA activities happening during the FlightSimCon weekend. We hope you’ll join us at the Museum to help out with event setup on Friday afternoon at 3pm, and then again for our members-only dinner at the Wood’N’Tap in Hartford that night. If you haven’t received the 2016 FlightSimCon Community Representative guide yet, please email [email protected] for your copy. It contains everything you need to know about participating in the event.

Major Navigation Changes to ZBW Airports
By Alec Liberman, Logan Informer Team

AIRAC 1606, effective May 26, 2016, brought some substantial changes to KBOS and some other airports within ZBW. The QUABN3 arrival went out of service, replaced with the largely similar JFUND arrival. The new arrival, slightly differing in track and altitudes, keeps aircraft at a higher longer and adds a runway 15R transition. Similar updates apply to the ROBUC1 and OOSHN3 arrivals, which are now ROBUC2 and OOSHN4, respectively. More information for ATC procedures with these new arrivals will be available shortly.

Boston Tea Party

For seven straight hours, beginning at 12pm ET, controllers from BVA will come together at Daniel Webster College in Nashua, NH for a day of fun for controllers and pilots alike. Not only will KBOS staffed to the hilt, but we also plan to staff many of our smaller airports, such as Hartford-Bradley, Providence, Albany, and a variety of airports on the Cape. All airports in the ZBW airspace will have at least Boston Center coverage.

BVA 2016 Member Survey
By Phil Coyle, Community Manager

Thanks to the over 150 members who completed our 2016 Member Satisfaction Survey! As you know, BVA regularly asks for feedback in an effort to continuously improve members’ experiences. As part of that effort, the Administration Team launches an in-depth survey every two years in order to track long term statistics about the community as well as identify areas of need moving forward. In particular, this year’s survey focused on:
-Perceptions of the community, its controllers, and its administrators
-The quality, quantity, and location of events
-Overall community atmosphere and social engagement

Federal Air Regulations and Definitions
Last month's question was: What is the FAA definition of "critical phase of flight"?

The correct answer is: All ground operations involving taxi, takeoff, and landing, and all other flight operations conducted below 10,000 feet, except cruise flight. Definitions can be found here.

Challenge Question: Which of the following callsigns is appropriate when operating a C-17 Globemaster III under a MACE callsign on the VATSIM network?
a) MACE27
b) MACE71
c) MACE482

The answer to the challenge question will be included in next month's Pilot Tip.

Each month, we run a contest on our forums to determine who has the best flight simulator screenshot. This month, Alec Liberman won the contest with his shot of a Cessna 172 Skyhawk over Cape Cod.
