FlyTampa Releases Boston Rebooted
By: Evan Reiter, Training Administrator

FlyTampa, maker of high quality add-on scenery for flight simulator, has just released Boston Rebooted! The newly-released payware scenery for BOS is available for Prepar3D v4, and features incredible detail and realism. In addition to other great features, the scenery includes high resolution textures, dynamic lighting, animated and static vehicles, stunning wet weather and snow effects, and animated jetways.

The scenery is available for $28 from http://flytampa.org/kbos.html.

FlyTampa is a community partner with Boston Virtual ARTCC, and is donating 3 copies of the scenery as prizes for FlightSimExpo this June. Of course, for members who use FSX/P3D, BVA’s free KBOS scenery is available from the ‘Required Software’ page of our website.

Two Friday Night Operations in April
By: Krikor Hajian, Events Coordiantor

BVA is participating in back-to-back Friday Night Operations events in April! This Friday, The Not-So-Bermuda Triangle features Boston (KBOS), Cleveland (KCLE), and Toronto (CYYZ) beginning at 7pm ET. In partnership with the Cleveland ARTCC and Toronto FIR, we present this three-way international cross fire event! With plenty of air carrier and charter service between the three fields across multiple aircraft types, there's something here for everyone!

Then, on April 13, we’re staffing up Boston for the Boston [FNO] Marathon event. As our members know, Monday, April 16, 2018 is the 122nd annual Boston Marathon, in Boston, MA. On the Friday before, fly the (virtual) runners up to Boston for the run. KBOS will be staffed top to bottom from 7-11pm ET, ready to accept your speedy flights all night long!

We'd also like to take this opportunity to remember the victims of the horrific Boston Bombing five years ago. The tragic events and loss of life at the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon will never be forgotten, and law enforcement and the city of Boston have and will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that these events will never occur again.

RNAV Approaches
Last month's question was:

What are the differences between an LNAV-only and an LPV approach? What kind of equipment is required to fly each approach?

Answer: While LNAV-only and LPV approaches are both types of RNAV approaches, they differ in how vertical guidance is approached. More specifically, LPV approaches provide vertical guidance (called a glidepath) while LNAV-only approaches do not provide vertical guidance, and must thus be flown with step-down altitudes. LPV stands for localizer performance with vertical guidance. As such, to fly an LPV approach, your airplane must have an installed (and current) GPS that is WAAS-enabled. Non-WAAS GPSes will not provide a glidepath, and thus are restricted to LNAV-only approaches with their respective minimums.

Challenge Question: What are the five hazardous attitudes which can lead to poor decision making and unsafe actions? What are their antidotes?

The answer to the challenge question will be included in next month's Pilot Tip.

Each month, we run a contest on our forums to determine who has the best flight simulator screenshot.

March's winner is brought to us by Sean Doyle:
