FlightSimExpo recently announced there were more than 30 exhibitors already confirmed for the upcoming Orlando event. These include the biggest names in flight simulation: Aerosoft, Orbx, Navigraph, Prepar3D, X-Plane, and many more. Boston Virtual ARTCC will, of course, be well-represented at FSExpo. For more information and the full list, read the FSExpo press release, or visit www.flightsimexpo.com.

FlightSimExpo takes place on June 7-9, 2019 at Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld®. In addition to being a great opportunity to learn more about the hobby we all love, the event is also our community’s biggest member meet-up of the year. The A-Team encourages members to visit our forums for more information about BVA’s presence at the show.

If you’re planning to attend the event, book into the host hotel at www.flightsimexpo.com/hotel, and register at www.flightsimexpo.com. Be sure to list “Boston Virtual ARTCC” as your organization so we can stay in touch. The conference has also negotiated airfare deals with Delta, Southwest, and WestJet for attendees.

We look forward to meeting or seeing you in Orlando this June!

Boston Virtual ARTCC Announces New Staff Roles
By: Clif Whitten

On behalf of the entire Administration Team, we would like to offer our sincere thanks to everyone who took the time to apply for a staff position during our recent application process. In reading the many applications, we were very humbled by the quality of people who are interested in giving back to the community.

Earlier this month, we were pleased to announce the following staff appointments:

-Jamsheed Lovelace (LE) to the position of Training Administrator
-Josh Nunn (NU) to the position of Events Coordinator
-Austin Cirulli (RQ) to the position of Social Media Manager
-Alec Liberman (LN) to the position of Treasurer

Together with others on the A-Team, these four members will help to manage the day-to-day operations of the community. For more information about the A-Team, and what we do, read on!

The Administration Team
By: Evan Reiter

As you have read in this edition of the Informer, the Administration Team was pleased to welcome three new members in January. Together with the existing team of administrators, Jay, Josh, and Austin help to manage the day-to-day administrative functions of the community.

Many community members likely have heard about the Administration Team (A-Team), but may not be as familiar with exactly how we operate. Because running a completely transparent and open administration is important to the community, we have decided to draft this article, which explains how the A-Team helps manage Boston Virtual ARTCC. The article discusses more about each of the individual administrators’ responsibilities, before concluding with a description of how we work together.

Northeastern Corridor FNO
By: Josh Nunn

The Boston, New York, and Washington ARTCCs are once again teaming up to bring you an FNO like no other! We'll be lighting up the northeastern United States, renowned for heavy traffic both on the ground and in the air, and bringing service to three of the nation’s busiest airports: Boston (KBOS), Newark (KEWR) and Washington-National (KDCA). We invite all aircraft to come and join us for this chance to fly with ATC service in the congested airspace of the Northeastern Corridor!

The event takes place on Friday, February 8 from 7pm ET.

Visit our forums for more information about the event and for cross-ARTCC preferred routes.

ATC Clearances

Last month's question was:

You are given the clearance: "Skylane 2JB, Runway 28, cleared for the option", what does this clearance mean, and what can you do?

Answer: if you are "cleared for the option", you are allowed to execute a low approach, touch-and-go, stop-and-ago, a full stop landing, or a missed approach. This clearance can only be heard at airports with an operating control tower.

Challenge question: what does "dead foot, dead engine" mean? How does that relate to "identify/verify/feather" on a multi-engine aircraft?

The answer to the challenge question will be included in next month's Pilot Tip.

December's contest winner was Don Desfosse!
